Let's do a bit of history, my favourite [ahum]. Tortola once was discovered by Columbus during his Journey of discovering the rest of the world. Years later, the Spanish tried to settle on the island but pirates as Blackbeard and Captain Kidd were here as first habitants of the island. Then the Dutch came, but unfortunately for them the British got the control and the Dutch were chased away. Since then Tortola is owned by the British. Tortola is called Beef Island Tortola because the airport is placed on a small island next to Tortola called Beef Island.
Now something about the RMS Rhone. The Royal Mail Ship Rhone was a cargo ship between the Caribbean and England. It transported products and passengers. When the Rhone was in the Caribbean it was docked on Peter Island for fuel. During that time a storm headed to their way and on their get away from the storm, is where it was the end. They survived the first part of the storm, but when the water was really calm, the captain realised that they were in the eye of the storm. They tried to rush to Salt Island, but there it hit a rock and the water came into the compartments and the boilers. One exploded and that brought an end to it.
Years later, the mast of the ship was still sticking out of the water. The British Navy found it "dangerous" and at that time they also just found a bomb that they had to dismantle. So they said: "It's dangerous and we just got new gadgets" Not that every captain of a boat will stay away from something like that, making it un-dangerous. But their gadget was a little to over the top, which blew the rest of the remains in pieces.
Today during the dive, it was amazing. There is still lots to see from the ship and lots of sea life too. We even went in to the wreck and it's unbelievable how big the propeller was from that ship. Check out the pictures!
This was a really good dive and this was literally: a super drift wreck dive. The current was really strong and we were having a hard time to get forward. But we saw a ray, shark, turtle and a octopus.
